Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said on Tuesday that jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is suffering from intense infighting at the moment.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, Asif said that PTI leaders’ statements were contradictory. He said the former first lady Bushra Bibi said that the party leadership fled from Islamabad’s D-Chowk, leaving her behind. He said the PTI leadership left party workers behind while fleeing from D-Chowk during the November 26 protest. He said the PTI should come up with a unanimous narrative instead of talking without evidence. He said that Imran Khan told his party to stage a sit-in at Sangjani, but they went to D-Chowk. He said the PTI has not presented identity cards of 12 of its workers they claimed were killed at the D-Chowk in Islamabad.
The defence minister said the PTI was playing the provincialism card. He alleged that guards of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur opened fire on the PTI workers. He said that Gandapur marched on Islamabad instead visiting the violence-hit tribal area of Kurram. He said this was the third time that Gandapur’s Islamabad invasion failed. He said that personnel of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police were brought to the Islamabad protest of the PTI in plainclothes. He said that PTI’s civil disobedience movement will also fail like its invasions of Islamabad.
