The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court (SC) has scheduled a hearing on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan's petition for a judicial inquiry into the May 9 riots, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, an apex court constitutional bench, headed by Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, dismissed objections raised by the Supreme Court Registrar's Office, ordering the petition to be assigned a case number and fixed for hearing.
During Tuesday’s hearing, the Additional Attorney General argued that the petition does not hold public significance and that the federal government would present its arguments on this point in court.
In a separate case that was also related to PTI founder, the constitutional bench dismissed a petition by Qayyum Khan, seeking Imran Khan's transfer from Adiala Jail to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), imposing a fine of PKR 20,000 on the petitioner.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked that if the PTI founder had any issues, he could file a petition himself. The judge noted that three of Imran Khan's lawyers were present in court, yet none had submitted such a request.
Petitioner Qayyum Khan argued that the matter was of national importance and not personal. However, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail countered by saying, "Think about national issues after becoming a member of the assembly. This is an individual matter, not a national issue. Such requests can be made by the prisoner or their family members."
