Marriyum Aurangzeb says CM Maryam Nawaz has okayed holding of Basant after 25 years

Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said Lahorites were given the good news as historical cultural festival Basant revived in Lahore after 25 years and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved it, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

In a Tweet, Marriyum Aurangzeb said Basant will be celebrated in Lahore on February 6, 7 and 8 across the city after decision to fully implement Basant Ordinance 2025.

All kite sellers and strings will be registered and under QR code, she said.

She said zero tolerance policy implemented against illegal kite flying and dangerous strings.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said Basant is a cultural tradition of the people, safe holding has been declared a collective responsibility.

Earlier, a plan to celebrate two Basant festivals in Lahore – one in February and the other in March – has been finalized.

According to sources, a three-day Basant festival will be celebrated in the first week of February and the other in the last week of March.

The Basant festival will be celebrated in Lahore on February 6, 7 and 8 with traditional fervour.

After the success of the first phase, the Basant festival will also be held in the last week of March.

Basant in Lahore will be held in the entire city of Lahore instead of five major locations.

The final date and plan were finalized in a meeting chaired by Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb. 

The meeting was briefed that the legal draft for Basant has been completed and the planning of 3-day activities for Basant has also been completed.

Kites and strings will be available only at designated locations of Lahore and will be sold on government terms. 

Work is under way on a security and administrative plan for Basant 2026.
