Pakistan has reportedly performed its first-ever "Non-Touch" Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) technique for kidney stones, led by Dr. Shabbir, marking a breakthrough in minimally invasive urology.
This scar-free procedure uses advanced endoscopes and lasers to break kidney stones without direct instrument contact (non-touch), potentially reducing complications and improving patient recovery.
The pioneering procedure was carried out by Dr Shabbir Hussain Chaudhry, one of Pakistan’s leading endourologists and a faculty member of the Asian Urological Society of Endoluminal Surgery and Technology (AUEST).
According to details, the innovative RIRS technique was completed without pre-stenting, without the use of a Ureteral Access Sheath (UAS/FANS), without C-Arm fluoroscopy, and notably without administering general anesthesia.
Despite these constraints, the procedure achieved 100% clearance of two kidney stones, reflecting a major milestone in minimally invasive urological surgery.
Dr Shabbir utilized the world’s most advanced and sleek flexible ureteroscope, along with a high-precision laser operated in three different modes, ensuring both safety and efficiency.
This marks his 10th successful Non-Touch RIRS case in a private setup, underscoring his leadership in introducing cutting-edge techniques in Pakistan.
Medical professionals have hailed the achievement as a step forward in patient-friendly, radiation-free, and anesthesia-sparing surgical innovation in the country’s healthcare landscape.
