Teachers at the Karachi University (KU) Thursday ended their 10 straight days of boycott over educational activities and decided to resume classes from tomorrow (Friday) after the success of talk with the Sindh government, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
President Karachi University Teachers Association Professor Dr Shah Ali Ul Qadr said that Minister for Boards and Universities Ismail Rahu has assured to fulfil the demands of faculty.
After the teachers ended the protest, the students seemed to be happy. But at the same time, expressed reservations on the increasing the semester fees. The students also called on the government to take the action for stopping the administration of the university from increasing the semester fees.
It is pertinent to note that earlier the Karachi University Teachers’ Society (KUTS) along with public universities across Sindh Wednesday observed a black day in the institutions of higher learning across Sindh.
The academic activities had been completely suspended on the ninth consecutive day over forced cancellation of the selection boards.
As per reports, a teachers’ body representing 12 public sector universities of the province threw its weight behind the black day call.
The black day was scheduled to condemn “recent intimidation on behalf of the secretary-universities who forced the KU vice chancellor to cancel the proceedings of selection boards”.
Representatives of the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (Fapuasa), Sindh chapter, and Kuts earlier announced the black day at a press conference held on the KU campus.
The teachers demanded that the government immediately remove the incumbent secretary of the universities and boards and appoint an official “who is well aware of rules and regulations”.
