South African batsman Matthew Breetzke has expressed disappointment despite scoring a record-breaking century on his debut, as his team suffered a defeat against New Zealand.

Speaking at a post-match press conference, Breetzke acknowledged that the early phase of his innings required some adjustment, but as the game progressed, he found it easier to time the ball.

"Initially, the pitch was a bit difficult to bat on, but it became more favorable as the innings went on," he stated.

Despite his personal milestone, Breetzke was disheartened by his team’s loss, stressing that his focus would remain on maintaining consistent performances in the future.

"I will strive to continue this level of performance and contribute to the team's success," he added.

Praising the New Zealand batting lineup, Breetzke admitted the brilliance of their top-order players, who played match-winning knocks.

"New Zealand’s world-class batsmen batted exceptionally well and made the difference," he acknowledged.

He also pointed out that losing the toss in a day match proved costly for South Africa, as conditions improved for batting later on. Breetzke expressed his determination to build on his promising start and help his team in upcoming matches.
