A major fire that broke out at a factory in the Rawat Industrial Estate was brought under control after nearly 14 hours of continuous firefighting, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.
According to Rescue 1122, a total of 21 fire tenders and more than 80 firefighters took part in the operation to contain the blaze, which erupted inside the industrial unit late on Monday.
Rescue officials said approximately 200,000 litres of water, mixed with firefighting foam, were used to extinguish the flames.
The cooling process remained under way, as firefighters continued efforts to prevent the fire from reigniting. Officials said the presence of large quantities of chemicals and other flammable materials inside the factory made the operation particularly difficult and prolonged.
Authorities warned that the extended blaze had weakened the structure of the factory, raising concerns that parts of the building could collapse at any time. As a precautionary measure, rescue teams restricted access to the surrounding area while ensuring that the situation remained under control.
Despite the scale and intensity of the fire, no casualties were reported. The Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi said emergency teams were dispatched immediately after receiving information about the incident, a timely response that helped avert loss of life.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Officials said a formal investigation would be launched once the site is declared completely safe.
