Chief Fire Officer Karachi has submitted reply to Sindh High Court in hearing of constitutional petition against Gul Plaza tragedy, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Chief Fire Officer submitted in his reply that enforcing fire safety laws does not fall within the jurisdiction of the Fire Brigade.
Fire Brigade officials conducted a fire safety survey in Gul Plaza in 2021.
During the survey, fire safety arrangements were reviewed under SOPs.
The Gul Plaza administration was informed of the observations and shortcomings in fire safety arrangements.
The fire brigade took a full part in the operation during the fire in Gul Plaza.
The fire in Gul Plaza was reported at 10:26 am and the first fire tender left at 10:27 am.
Fire brigade officials put out fires in buildings on II Chandrigarh, Sharaa Qaideen and Sharaa Faisal in 2021-22 Safety survey was conducted.
The concerned Assistant Commissioner conducts meetings and surveys related to fire survey.
The Chief Secretary Sindh has formed fire safety audit committees under the concerned Assistant Commissioner.
The committees are conducting fire safety audits in shopping malls and commercial buildings in collaboration with other departments including the Fire Brigade.
