DPO Hafizabad Kamran Hameed on Saturday took notice of the use of obnoxious language by a DSP against a female complainant, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Earlier, a video had gone viral on social media in which the woman alleged that the police official used inappropriate language against her.
The DPO immediately summoned the concerned police official to seek complete details of the incident.
He made it clear that the use of such language against citizens, especially against women, would not be tolerated.
The DPO directed that there should be an independent and a transparent inquiry into the incident so that departmental action could be taken against the DSP, if he was found guilty.
Kamran said that it was the duty of the police to protect the life, property and honour of the people, adding that the misuse of power by any official could not be tolerated.
He ordered that people’s trust in the Force should be maintained at all costs, and that the police officials should be polite towards people; they must exercise restraint and must abide by the law.
