Significant progress has been made on $400 historic logistics project agreed upon between National Logistics Cell (NLC), Pakistan Railways (PR) and DP World, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
The construction of the key historical project, the Dedicated Freight Corridor and the Multimodal Logistics Park at Pipri, has formally started.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi and DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem as chief guests.
The modern Multimodal Logistics Park at Pipri will integrate rail, road, and port facilities in a single center.
This important corridor will make the transport of imports and exports to China, Central Asia, and other regional countries faster, cheaper, and more efficient.
The project aims to significantly boost Pakistan Railways’ freight-handling capacity by enabling faster movement of cargo to and from Karachi Port, while easing congestion on roads and at the port terminals.
The term sheet for the project had already been signed in January 2025 between Pakistan Railways, DP World, and NLC.
Once operational, the freight corridor is expected to significantly reduce congestion at Karachi Port, accelerate trade facilitation, and strengthen Pakistan’s logistics infrastructure—enhancing imports, exports, and overall economic activity.
