An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday adjourned the hearing in the High Court Copy Branch vandalism case against Advocate Majid Jahangir until September 2 after the accused failed to appear before the court.
Judge Malik Abid Hussain conducted the proceedings. While the accused remained absent, his surety appeared in court in response to the court's summons.
Addressing the court, the surety said that Majid Jahangir, who is his brother, had gone missing and that the family was trying to trace his whereabouts. He requested the court to grant additional time to locate him and submit his whereabouts.
The court directed the accused to ensure his appearance at the next hearing.
During the proceedings, it was also noted that Majid Jahangir has filed a petition seeking acquittal in the case. The court sought arguments from the prosecution on the acquittal plea at the next hearing.
The case was registered in 2021 at Old Anarkali Police Station on the complaint of Assistant Registrar Copy Branch Shabbir Ahmed.
According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly vandalised the High Court Copy Branch after becoming upset over a delay in receiving a copy of a case.
Advocate Majid Jahangir was charged under anti-terrorism laws as well as provisions relating to damage to government property, issuing death threats, attempting to seize official records and interfering in government functions.
