Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the United Nations and the multilateral system during a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General candidate Macky Sall, the Foreign Office said.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, former President of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embaló also attended the meeting, during which the participants exchanged views on regional and global affairs.
During the meeting, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to the multilateral system and underscored the central role of the United Nations in maintaining international peace and security.
He stressed the need to ensure the implementation of the purposes and principles enshrined in the UN Charter, saying that respect for international law and international agreements was essential for achieving lasting global peace.
The deputy prime minister also called for the implementation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions on Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir, the spokesperson said.
Dar expressed hope that the United Nations would play a more effective role in addressing emerging global challenges and strengthening international cooperation.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s foreign policy priorities, he said the country remained committed to working with the international community to promote global peace, sustainable development and an effective multilateral system, according to the Foreign Office spokesperson.
