Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, during which the two leaders discussed the regional security situation, bilateral ties and ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability.

According to an official statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed deep concern over the recent tensions in the region and stressed the need for the immediate restoration of peace and stability. He urged Iran and all other relevant parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid any actions that could undermine the peace achieved in recent months.

The prime minister also emphasised the importance of honouring the commitments made under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), saying the agreement provides a sustainable framework for promoting mutual understanding, respect and shared prosperity in the region and beyond.

Reaffirming Pakistan's commitment to regional peace, Shehbaz assured President Pezeshkian that Pakistan would continue to play a sincere and constructive role in efforts aimed at restoring and preserving peace and stability.

The Iranian president reiterated Iran's commitment to regional peace and appreciated Pakistan's continued support and constructive engagement in promoting stability.

During the conversation, the two leaders also reviewed progress on the decisions taken during President Pezeshkian's visit to Islamabad last month and agreed to accelerate their implementation to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also conveyed his warm wishes and best regards to Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei.

The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact and continue consultations on issues of mutual interest, particularly regional peace, stability and enhanced Pakistan-Iran cooperation.
