The preliminary post-mortem report of a 10-year-old girl found dead in the washroom of a private tuition centre in Lahore's Ichhra area has concluded that she died from asphyxiation caused by strangulation, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.
According to the initial autopsy findings, the sixth-grade student had a distinct ligature mark around her neck.
The report found no visible signs of physical assault or other external injuries on her body.
Officials said the exact cause and manner of death will be determined after the completion of forensic and chemical analyses.
Fingerprints and DNA samples collected from the scene have been sent to a forensic laboratory for examination.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when the girl went to the tuition centre to attend classes.
Police said she entered the washroom during the session but did not return for more than 10 minutes.
Staff members later forced open the washroom door and found her unconscious.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
The victim's father said he received a call from the tuition centre informing him that his daughter had fallen unconscious.
He immediately reached the centre and took her to the hospital, but she could not be saved.
Police have termed the death suspicious and said investigators are examining all possible angles, including homicide, suicide, and other potential circumstances.
The owner of the tuition centre has been taken into custody for questioning, while CCTV footage from the premises and surrounding areas has been seized to assist the investigation.
