Outgoing Senate Deputy Chairman Saleem Mandviwalla hosted a dinner in honour of senators from opposition parties on Wednesday.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto, ex-premier Yousaf Raza Gilani, Jamiat Ulema Islam leader Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and key political figures also participated in the event.
The 11-party alliance of opposition parties, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), nominated Gilani as the joint candidate for the seat of Senate chairman and Haideri as deputy chairman in the upcoming vote.
The opposition finalised Gilani’s nomination moments after his victory against PTI candidate Hafeez Sheikh last week while a special PDM meeting decided Haider’s name for the seat of deputy chairman on Tuesday.
