On the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of five members to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
Quoting its sources, 24News TV channel reported that the members had been picked up from Islamabad and four provinces each.
They informed that the president had okayed the appointment of Sabahat Rafiq as a member PEMRA Punjab, while Haider Naqvi had been appointed as member Sindh, Iftikhar Firdaus as member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Ayesha Ayub Wadood as member Balochistan and Dr. Rashid Wali Janjua as member federal capital.
On March 5, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had appointed Dr. Lubna Zaheer, who had been serving as a professor at the School of Communication Studies (SCS) at the Punjab University as Punjab PEMRA Council of Complaints Chairperson.
Dr. Lubna had previously served as a member of the Council of Complaints for four years, from 2015 to 2019.
Renowned as a columnist, political analyst, and expert in the field of communication, she has made significant contributions in the fields of education, teaching, and research.
She has also represented Pakistan at numerous international conferences on communication and media studies.
In the initial phase, Rashida Suhail and Zahid Maqsood have also been appointed as members of the Council.
