Airlines in Pakistan have increased ticket fares for domestic and international routes following a sharp, ~82% rise in jet fuel prices (reaching Rs342 per litre), 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday.
According to airline sources, ticket prices for domestic flights from Karachi to major destinations, including Lahore and Islamabad, have been raised significantly.
Fares on domestic routes have increased by between Rs2,800 and Rs5,000 per ticket.
The development comes amid the ongoing regional crisis linked to the ongoing war in Mideast, which has disrupted aviation operations.
On the 11th day of the war, around 85 flights between Pakistan and destinations in the Middle East were cancelled.
Sources said fares on international routes have also been increased, with ticket prices going up by Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 28,000 depending on the destination.
Flights from Pakistan to countries in the Middle East and Central Asia have seen fare increases of up to Rs. 15,000 per ticket.
Meanwhile, airline sources said fares for flights from Pakistan to Toronto and Manchester have increased by as much as Rs. 28,000 per ticket.
The one-way economy class fare on these routes has now exceeded Rs. 250,000.
The fare increases follow a significant rise in jet fuel prices in Pakistan. Sources said the price of jet fuel has increased by Rs. 154 per litre, raising the price to Rs. 342 per litre.
