The German Consulate General in Karachi commemorated the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the liberation from National Socialism with a solemn memorial service, honoring the millions of lives lost during one of history’s darkest chapters.
The ceremony, held at the consulate, was attended by diplomats and representatives from Allied nations, including the Consul General of France, the British Deputy High Commissioner, the Acting US Consul General, and other German officials.
In his remarks, German Consul General Dr. Rüdiger Lotz underscored the continued relevance of remembrance and the ongoing responsibility to protect peace and democracy.
“Peace is not something to be taken for granted. It is fragile and must be secured anew every day — through dialogue, through understanding, and through unwavering respect for human dignity,” said Dr. Lotz.
With global conflicts on the rise and democratic values increasingly under threat, he stressed the importance of standing firm for democracy, the rule of law, and peaceful coexistence, both in Europe and globally.

“The message of May 8 is more relevant than ever… Never again war, never again hatred. Never again must nationalism, intolerance, and contempt for humanity find space in our world.”
The event served as both a remembrance and a call to action — urging the international community to ensure that “Never again war” is not merely a historic vow but a living, active commitment for generations to come.
