Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz formally inaugurated Rawalpindi’s well-known Kutchery Chowk project which has officially been renamed “Marka-e-Haq Square”, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Sunday.
After the inauguration, Chief Minister Maryam Sharif visited the signal-free corridor and inspected the overhead bridge and other roads. The Chief Minister also reviewed the Annexe Chowk to GPO Chowk signal-free project.
On the occasion, Provincial Minister for Communications and Works Sohaib Ahmed Bharath gave a detailed briefing to the CM. He said more than two lakh vehicles will be able to pass through the signal-free corridor daily in the most congested area of Rawalpindi.
He said the first state-of-the-art pedestrian bridge has also been built in Maarka-e-Haq Square.
“Signal-free corridor will change the urban culture of Rawalpindi”, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif said.
The mega infrastructure project, completed at a cost exceeding Rs19 billion, was finished within six months. It includes two flyovers, three underpasses and two steel bridges.
Following the inauguration of Marka-e-Haq Square, traffic flow in Rawalpindi is expected to improve significantly. Residents have welcomed the completion of the project.
The extensive security arrangements were put in place by Rawalpindi Police for the inauguration ceremony. The heavy deployment of the Elite Force, Special Branch and district police have been ensured. Police officials said foolproof security arrangements had been finalised for the ceremony.
