Flour prices in Lahore have increased sharply by around Rs700 per mound as supplies of flour prepared from the new wheat crop begin entering the market, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to the channel report, flour mills and shopkeepers have increased prices significantly, with wheat flour now selling at over Rs4,300 per maund, up from around Rs3,500 per maund.

In the open market, the price of a 10-kilogram flour bag has reached Rs1,080. A 15-kilogram bag is being sold at Rs1,600, while a 20-kilogram flour bag is now priced at Rs2,130.

Market sources say the sudden increase has created concern among consumers as essential food costs continue to rise.

Flour mills have started supplying wheat flour prepared from the new harvest, but prices continue to show an upward trend across retail and wholesale markets.
