PTI Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas on Sunday strongly criticised the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, calling it the “darkest day in the history of Pakistan” during a press conference at the PTI Parliament House.
He said there had been no consensus on the amendment and alleged that it was pushed through in haste. Comparing it to the 26th Amendment, he claimed that “people were bought” to secure support and argued that the constitution had now become controversial.
The senator said the amendment offered nothing for the public and that “no one is listening to the voice of the people.” He further alleged that those in power were “not elected by the people” and that their actions were hostile to the nation and the constitution.
Raja Nasir Abbas said certain personalities had been elevated above institutions, describing them as “permanent residents” of the system, and criticised the PPP for “carving idols.” He said the PTI and its allies condemned and rejected the amendment, adding that even members of the PML-N were “ashamed from within.”
He vowed that the people would “bring down these idols” and said the party would continue confronting the government. He also thanked Maulana Fazlur Rehman for “standing up for us” and promised that the opposition would not abandon the public.
The senator said only a “handful of people” were pushing the amendment and announced a peaceful, practical struggle against it. He added that the PTI would “come with flowers and garlands” and would offer flowers even to those “who come with a gun in their hands.”
