The National Assembly is set to elect a new leader of the House on Monday (today) with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif as the hot favourite. The former ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has pitched Shah Mehmood Qureshi as its candidate for the prime minister.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned the hearing of the case relating to the election of the Punjab Chief Minister till 2pm on Monday (today), summoning the lawyers for both parties with further arguments. “Tell me why these elections are to be held on 16th? Why can’t they be held tomorrow?” LHC Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti put a question to the lawyer for Punjab Assembly Speaker Ali Zafar.
The Islamabad high Court has rejected the petition seeking to put former prime minister Imran Khan’s name on Exit Control List and order for starting treason case proceedings against him over threat letter issue. The court while rejecting the plea, also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the petitioner for submitting a frivolous petition. Earlier, the Islamabad High Court reserved judgement on the maintainability of the petition.
