The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration unit in Gujranwala has thwarted an attempt to travel abroad using a deceased brother’s passport, arresting both the suspect and his facilitator in a major operation at Sialkot Airport.
According to FIA officials, the accused, identified as Syed Azhar Abbas, attempted to board a flight to Italy using the passport and Italian identity card of his late twin brother, Syed Shahid Abbas Shah, who passed away three months ago in Pakistan.
During immigration clearance, Azhar Abbas presented the fraudulent documents, but officers detected the deception. Following his arrest, agent Zulfiqar Ali Shah — alleged to have facilitated the travel attempt — was also taken into custody.
Initial investigations revealed that the accused planned to enter Italy posing as his deceased brother. Both men have been handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Gujrat for further investigation, the FIA spokesperson confirmed.
