Despite objections raised by the Punjab finance department and the P&D Board that the ‘Canal Ship Restaurant’ is a wastage of money and is therefore not suitable, the Punjab government has still gone ahead with its approval, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

As per the documents available with the 24News TV channel, the project will now cost Rs540 million, not Rs350 million.

The provincial government has given its approval after a change in its design and a study by the NESPAK.

The finance department opposed the project on the grounds that spending Rs4 million on each seat in the ship was too much.

The documents inform that the department also raised objections to the construction of a bridge at the cost of Rs50 million and a ‘selfie point’ at the cost of over Rs10 million.

The supplementary grant for the project will now be allocated to the PHA, while the P&D Board will arrange the necessary funds.
