Rescue teams on Thursday recovered bodies of four passengers, including a woman, after a van plunged into a river in the Azad Pattan area.
The accident left five others injured, including the driver, while five passengers remain missing, authorities confirmed.
The Palandri deputy commissioner said teams from Rescue 1122 Palandri and Rawalpindi took part in the operation, which continued for several hours despite difficult terrain and strong river currents. The rescue effort was suspended at nightfall due to poor visibility and safety concerns.
He said the search will resume early Thursday morning, with authorities set to seek the assistance of the Pakistan Navy to support underwater and deep-river operations.
In a related development, officials confirmed that the passenger van involved in the Rawalakot accident was successfully pulled out of the river.
Local representative Masood Gardezi expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged authorities to ensure all missing passengers are located as soon as possible.
