The M5 Motorway has been closed from Multan to Zahir Pir due to dense fog and dangerously low visibility, the Motorway Police said on Tuesday. The decision, according to officials, has been taken to safeguard the lives and property of motorists amid worsening winter conditions.
Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed said visibility along the route had dropped to unsafe levels, making travel hazardous. He warned that lane violations during fog significantly increase the risk of major accidents and urged all road users to strictly maintain lane discipline.
Authorities have advised commuters to:
Avoid unnecessary travel
Prefer travelling during daylight hours
Note that the safest travel window during fog is between 10am and 6pm
Always use fog lights
Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead
Refrain from speeding
The spokesperson emphasised that motorists should exercise extreme caution and stay updated on road conditions.
For assistance or travel guidance, drivers have been urged to contact the Motorway Police helpline at 130.
Motorway authorities will reopen the route once visibility improves, officials said.
