Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf has emphasized that the Quran and Sunnah instruct mothers to breastfeed their newborns for two years, 24NewsHD TV reported on Thursday.
He was addressing a consultative seminar organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs in collaboration with UNICEF to promote and protect breastfeeding through the guidance of religious scholars.
The minister said that Islamic teachings clearly highlight the importance and rights associated with breastfeeding.
“A mother’s milk is the first and best source of nutrition for infants and their fundamental right,” he noted, adding that it protects children from diseases and carries divine reward for mothers, as mentioned in the Hadith.
He further stated that major world religions also consider breastfeeding a sacred and natural practice, reflecting shared human wisdom and fostering interfaith harmony.
