Pakistan Tuesday reported a new polio case in Sindh, taking the previous year’s tally to 74, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The latest case has been confirmed in Shikarpur, Sindh, marking the second polio case from the district this year.

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) officials, samples were collected on December 15, 2024, and subsequent testing confirmed the presence of the wild poliovirus.

Providing a breakdown of polio cases across the country, the NIH stated that in 2024 alone, Pakistan recorded a total of 74 cases. There are 27 cases from Balochistan, 23 cases from Sindh, 22 cases from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one case each from Punjab and Islamabad.

Meanwhile, in 2025, the first polio case of the year has already been reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, raising concerns about the persistent challenges in eradicating the virus.

Health authorities continue to stress the importance of vaccination campaigns, urging parents to ensure their children receive polio drops, especially in high-risk areas.
