The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government has extended winter holidays for all public and semi-public educational institutions across the region due to severe cold weather and prevailing climatic conditions, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.
According to an official notification issued by the Azad Kashmir Education Department, educational institutions that were scheduled to reopen on January 12 will now resume academic activities on January 17, 2026.
The decision applies to schools, colleges, and all other educational institutions throughout Azad Kashmir.
Officials said the extension aims to protect children from the harsh winter conditions currently affecting the region.
Academic activities will formally resume from Saturday, January 17.
The announcement has been welcomed by parents and education stakeholders, who termed the move necessary in view of the extreme cold gripping the area.
