Terrorists blew up the Khaisur link bridge in the Baka Khel area of Bannu on Sunday, using an improvised explosive device that caused severe structural damage, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.
According to the report, the powerful blast ripped through the bridge located within the jurisdiction of the Baka Khel police station, disrupting movement in the area and prompting immediate security measures.
Local police said the bridge had previously been targeted in a similar attempt last December, but the device had failed to cause major damage.
This latest attack, the police added, appeared to be part of a wider pattern in which militants strike small but vital infrastructure points in the region.
The Khaisur Bridge is one of several local link bridges in Baka Khel that have come under repeated assault by unidentified militants operating in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A fresh militant attack has disrupted daily life for residents who rely on these bridges to reach workplaces, schools, markets, and health facilities, often forcing them to take alternate routes.
Security forces and police cordoned off the blast site shortly after the explosion and launched a search operation in the surrounding localities.
Authorities have also begun early assessments to determine the extent of the damage and to initiate work on restoring the destroyed section of the bridge.
