Multiple motorways across Punjab and adjoining areas were closed on Saturday night due to dense fog, causing severely reduced visibility and posing serious risks to motorists, according to the Motorway Police, Central Region.
The Lahore–Sialkot Motorway (M-11) was closed from Lahore to Sambrial due to fog. Similarly, the Motorway M-2 was shut from Lahore to Chakri, while Motorway M-3 was closed from Faizpur to Darkhana. Authorities also closed Motorway M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Sher Shah and Motorway M-5 from Sher Shah to Rohri because of poor visibility.
Spokesperson for the Motorway Police, Central Region, Syed Imran Ahmed, said the decision to close the motorways was taken to protect the lives and property of the public. He warned that lane violations during foggy conditions could lead to serious accidents.
The Motorway Police advised road users to strictly follow lane discipline and avoid unnecessary travel during fog. Citizens were urged to prefer traveling during daylight hours, noting that safer travel times in fog are between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Drivers were instructed to use fog lights mandatorily, avoid overspeeding, and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. Motorists requiring guidance or assistance were advised to contact the Motorway Police helpline at 130.
The Motorway Police said updates regarding the reopening of closed sections would be shared as weather conditions improve.
