Ten people have died in Jessore within the past 24 hours as a severe cold wave tightens its grip across Bangladesh, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to local health officials, the victims succumbed to cold-related illnesses at Jessore General Hospital, where a sudden surge of patients has heightened concerns over bed shortages and medical capacity.
The channel reported that winter conditions have intensified sharply in recent days, with icy winds and persistently low temperatures disrupting daily life in multiple districts.
Hospitals across the country are treating a growing influx of patients suffering from flu, cough, pneumonia, and breathing difficulties, putting mounting pressure on healthcare facilities.
In Dhaka alone, 290 people were admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours, more than a hundred of them with flu-like symptoms. Among these patients were 54 children, as doctors warn that both the young and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to the harsh weather.
Dhaka recorded a minimum temperature of 9.6°C today, while the Bangladesh Meteorological Department reported temperature fluctuations between 7°C and 10°C throughout the week.
With the sun rarely visible and frigid winds blowing in from the north, cold-related illnesses are rising rapidly, prompting warnings from medical professionals and concern among public health authorities.
