Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder and leader Altaf Hussain has been hospitalised at a North London hospital after developing multiple health complications, including stress-related issues affecting his heart.
Party officials said that Hussain was admitted to the hospital on Thursday after a severe illness. Medical staff conducted a series of diagnostic tests upon his arrival.
Senior MQM leader Mustafa Azizabadi, based in London, confirmed: “Doctors decided to admit him for further treatment after preliminary evaluations.”
Deputy Convener of MQM’s Central Coordination Committee, Qasim Ali Raza, stated on Friday: “Mr. Altaf Hussain underwent several diagnostic procedures including blood tests, ECG, CT scan, X-ray, and ultrasound. He has been under significant emotional stress for some time. Based on medical advice, a blood transfusion was also administered.”
This is not the first time Hussain has faced serious health issues. He was previously admitted to the ICU of the same hospital in February 2021 after contracting COVID-19. He was infected with the virus twice that year but recovered both times.
Sources close to Hussain revealed that he was taken to the hospital after a foot injury failed to heal for several days. “He is diabetic, and while dealing with this condition, he began experiencing intense pressure on his heart. His colleagues acted quickly and brought him to the hospital,” the source said, adding that Hussain is now in stable condition.
