The Punjab University is in the news again and it was revealed that chickens were being raised illegally in an official building of Electrical Engineering Department of the university, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

The chickens are everywhere in the Electrical Department – on the roof, in the lawn and at other places.

The report further alleged that chicken coops have been built on the building’s roof while the department's lawn has also been converted into a space for keeping the chickens.

The most astonishing part of the report was that public funds were used for the safety of the chickens.

About half a million rupees were spent from the government treasury to install a protective fence around the lawn to keep the chickens secure.

The installation of the fence has created difficulties in the movement of students, as it has blocked a pathway that they previously used to access the university's main library.

The report further claimed that government employees working in the department have been assigned duties to look after the hens.
