Only a quarter of senators attended all eight sittings of the Senate's 361st session, while 10 members did not attend a single sitting, according to a report released by Free and Fair Election Network.
The report, which analysed attendance during the session, found that only 24 of the Senate's 95 members maintained perfect attendance throughout all eight sittings.
According to FAFEN, 71 senators, or 74 percent of the house, were absent from at least one sitting during the session.
The report said attendance fluctuated throughout the proceedings, with the third sitting recording the highest attendance of 66 senators. In contrast, only 47 members were present during the eighth sitting, marking the lowest attendance of the session.
FAFEN noted that 10 senators did not attend any of the eight sittings.
The report also highlighted the attendance of parliamentary leaders and members of the federal cabinet. According to the findings, the leader of the house attended only one sitting, while the leader of the opposition was present at seven of the eight sittings.
Among cabinet members who are senators, three federal ministers did not attend any sitting of the session, the report said. However, a minister of state attended six of the eight sittings.
FAFEN regularly monitors parliamentary proceedings and attendance records as part of its efforts to promote transparency and accountability in democratic institutions.
The 361st session of the Senate consisted of eight sittings during which lawmakers discussed legislative and national issues, while attendance levels varied considerably from one sitting to another, according to the report.
