Govt sets up first Data Governance Council in energy sector

What can be termed a significant headway in the energy sector, the Ministry of Energy has set up first Data Governance Council in the public sector, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

According to the Power Division spokesman, the council has been set up after consultations with the Pakistan Digital Authority, and it has the representation of all departments of the power sector, including Discos, transmission companies and regulatory departments.

According to the concerned officials, the council will help integrate the data of all departments of the power sector, which will enable Pakistan head towards a power data ecosystem which will be compatible with future requirements.

Prior to that, the data of each department was separate from the other due to which planning and decision-making processes had been affected.

The council has been constituted according to international standards.

A Central Data Repository will be established under the supervision of the council, which would gather the entire sector’s data.

This will help make an exact estimate of the demand for electricity, infrastructure development and provide international investors access to a verified data.

This will result in quick decision-making regarding investment.

The spokesman has said that the government of Pakistan considers the data an important national asset.
