The Supreme Judicial Council of Pakistan on Thursday decided to amend the Code of Conduct for judges and considered 10 matters under Article 209 of the Constitution during a meeting chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.
According to an official statement, the meeting was held at the Supreme Court in Islamabad and was attended by Amin-ud-Din Khan, Munib Akhtar, Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Aalia Neelum.
S.M. Attique Shah attended the meeting as a substituted member.
The council reviewed proposed amendments to the Code of Conduct for judges and also took up a draft of the Rules Regulating Procedure and Conduct of Business of the council. However, the matter was deferred for further deliberation.
The statement said the council, in what it described as a demonstration of institutional accountability and transparency, also considered matters concerning some of its own members. For that purpose, meetings were held with different compositions of the council in accordance with relevant constitutional provisions.
The reconstituted council included Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Ayesha A. Malik, Aamer Farooq and Ali Baqar Najafi as substituted members.
According to the statement, the council considered 10 matters under Article 209 of the Constitution of Pakistan and completed the business placed on its agenda.
The Supreme Judicial Council is the constitutional body responsible for examining complaints and matters relating to the conduct of superior court judges.
