A 42-year-old woman from Jacobabad has died of rabies at Karachi's Indus Hospital after being bitten by a mongoose, marking the first reported rabies-related death linked to a mongoose bite in Sindh, hospital officials said.
According to a spokesperson, the woman had been bitten by a mongoose about two weeks ago and was later brought to the hospital after developing symptoms consistent with rabies.
Dr Aftab Gohar said the deceased exhibited symptoms of rabies before her death.
Hospital officials described the case as the first reported rabies fatality in Sindh associated with a mongoose bite.
The latest death adds to growing concerns over rabies cases in the province. According to available figures, 10 deaths linked to rabies resulting from animal bites have been reported in Sindh so far.
Health experts have repeatedly urged the public to seek immediate medical treatment, including post-exposure vaccination, after bites from dogs or other potentially infected animals, warning that rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear.
