The Quote of the Day comes from Catherine, Princess of Wales, who candidly shared her thoughts on motherhood, describing it as a deeply rewarding yet challenging experience that brings a whirlwind of emotions and life-changing responsibilities.

Speaking at a recent mental health advocacy event, the mother of three reflected on both the joys and challenges that come with raising children. She described motherhood as one of life’s most transformative milestones, bringing emotional, physical and personal changes as women adapt to their new roles.

“Personally, becoming a mother has been such a rewarding and wonderful experience,” she said, adding that the journey has been deeply enriching for her.

However, she also acknowledged that motherhood can be difficult at times even for someone with strong support systems. According to the Princess, the experience often includes moments of uncertainty, exhaustion and self-doubt.

“Nothing can really prepare you for the sheer overwhelming experience of what it means to become a mother,” she noted.

She further explained that motherhood brings a mix of emotions, including joy, love, worry and fatigue. “Your fundamental identity changes overnight. You go from thinking of yourself as primarily an individual to suddenly being a mother, first and foremost,” she said.

Highlighting the unpredictability of parenting, the Princess also pointed out that there is no universal guide to raising children.

“There is no rule book. You just have to make it up and do the very best you can for your family,” she shared, adding that this uncertainty can sometimes lead to a lack of confidence among new mothers.

The Princess of Wales also stressed the importance of seeking help when needed, encouraging mothers to speak openly about the challenges they face.

“It is right to talk about motherhood as a wonderful thing, but we also need to talk about its stresses and strains,” she said. “It’s OK not to find it easy, and asking for help should not be seen as a sign of weakness.”

She emphasised that prioritising mental health and seeking support can help mothers better manage stress, maintain their well being and care for their families more effectively.
