Former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser has approached the Islamabad High Court seeking the dismissal of multiple criminal cases registered against him in Islamabad and Punjab, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.
According to the petition, 19 cases have been registered against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader in various police stations across the two provinces.
The petition argued that authorities had repeatedly lodged FIRs of a similar nature over the same political events, describing the move as political victimisation.
Qaiser requested the court to issue an order for the dismissal of all cases allegedly registered through the misuse of authority.
He also urged the court to merge all the cases into a single representative FIR and direct authorities to conduct a transparent investigation.
The petition further requested the court to declare the registration of multiple cases over the same political incident unconstitutional and unlawful.
Qaiser also sought protective orders to prevent police from allegedly harassing or arresting him during the proceedings.
He made the interior secretary, the chief commissioner, and the IGP as respondents in the petition, along with station house officers (SHOs) of seven police stations in Islamabad.
