Bangladesh tightened their grip over the first Test against Pakistan after piling a 179-run lead by the close of play on the rain-affected fourth day in Dhaka on Monday.
Only 37 overs were possible due to rain interruptions, but the hosts still managed to put Pakistan under pressure with a solid batting display in their second innings.
Resuming the day at 7 without loss and holding a 34-run lead, Bangladesh lost two early wickets as Pakistan struck in the opening session.
Mohammad Abbas removed Mohammad Hossain Joy for five, while Hasan Ali dismissed Shadman Islam for 10.
However, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque then combined to frustrate the Pakistani bowling attack with a crucial 105-run partnership for the third wicket.
Mominul scored 56 before falling to Hasan Ali with the team total on 128, but Pakistan failed to make another breakthrough before stumps.
At the end of the fourth day’s play, Bangladesh were 152 for 3 in their second innings, extending their overall lead to 179 runs.
Earlier, Pakistan were bowled out for 386 in reply to Bangladesh’s first-innings total of 413.
Azan Awais led the fightback with 103 runs, while Abdullah Fazal made 60.
Mohammad Rizwan scored 59 and Salman Agha contributed 58.
Imam-ul-Haq made 45, while captain Shan Masood managed only nine runs. Shaheen Shah Afridi added 13.
Bangladesh had resumed their first innings on the second day at 301 for 4 before being dismissed for 413, with Shanto scoring 101. Mominul made 91 and Mushfiqur Rahim added 71.
For Pakistan, Mohammad Abbas claimed five wickets, while Shaheen Shah Afridi took three.
Hasan Ali and Nauman Ali picked up one wicket each.
