Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday chaired a high-level meeting to review strategies aimed at increasing Pakistan’s exports and strengthening export-oriented industries, 24NewsHD TV reported.
Speaking on the occasion, the prime minister said export-led industrial growth was essential for achieving the country’s broader economic development goals.
He said the government remained focused on increasing exports and providing facilities to industries in order to improve economic performance and competitiveness.
Sharif directed authorities to formulate a comprehensive plan to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), describing them as key drivers of export growth.
He also instructed officials to devise strategies for promoting new businesses and industries that could contribute to increasing the country’s exports.
The prime minister said research and development, along with innovation in industry and trade, would help Pakistani products compete more effectively in global markets.
Sharif further directed authorities to ensure the timely payment of tax refunds to exporters to ease financial pressures on the business community.
During the meeting, officials briefed participants on the proposed export enhancement strategy and presented a draft policy framework.
Participants also shared recommendations and suggestions regarding the policy.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, National Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and others.
