The Sindh government on Monday announced the schedule for summer vacations for all public and private schools across the province, with holidays set to begin from June 1 and continue until July 31, according to an official statement issued by the provincial education department.

Education department officials said the decision would be applicable to all government and private educational institutions operating in Sindh, providing students and teaching staff a two-month break during the peak summer season.

The announcement comes amid rising temperatures across the country, with weather authorities warning of persistent heatwave conditions in several regions over the coming days.

The development follows a similar announcement made earlier by Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, who revealed that summer vacations for schools in Punjab would commence from May 22 and continue until August 23, giving students in the province an extended break of more than three months.

In his statement, the minister said the decision had been taken in view of the prevailing weather conditions and to ensure the safety and well-being of students and school staff during the intense summer months.

The vacation schedules announced by both provinces come as a welcome relief for students, teachers and parents as the country experiences an ongoing hot spell, with temperatures expected to remain significantly above normal in several areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has already cautioned that the coming months could bring a combination of extreme weather events, including heatwaves, flash floods, urban flooding and windstorms in different parts of the country.

The Met Office has also warned that rising temperatures may trigger strong winds, dust storms and hailstorms, which could cause damage to seasonal crops, vegetables and orchards, besides disrupting routine life in affected regions.

Authorities have advised citizens to take precautionary measures, avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours and ensure adequate hydration as temperatures continue to climb.
