Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has said that the District Education Officer (Secondary) has initiated an inquiry into the poor performance of government schools across the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore on Friday, Rana Sikandar said that 2,200 government schools have been identified as having pass rates of 20 percent or lower.
He said principals and heads of schools have been ordered to submit an explanation within three days regarding 9th-grade results falling below the 20 percent marks.
He said relevant school heads were ordered to improve academic standards and student results.
The Minister said that teachers responsible for such low results will be removed from service; there will be no protracted inquiries, and direct action will be taken.
A teacher who consistently delivers poor results over a period of three to five years forfeits the right to retain their position, Rana Sikandar said.
He said effective measures must be taken to improve educational performance of students and steps have been taken to improve the dismal state of government schools.
Rana Sikandar Hayat said the trend of cheating in examinations has been discouraged.
Teachers in schools with consistently poor results will be held accountable, Rana Sikandar Hayat said.
He said teachers producing results below 20 percent will be removed from service.
There will be no prolonged inquiries against teachers; direct action will be taken for poor results, Rana Sikandar Hayat warned.
