Islamabad police launched a search operation against Afghan nationals in the Sarai Kharbuza area of Islamabad on Sunday, resulting in violent clashes that left four police officers wounded and 23 suspects under arrest, 24NewsHD TV reported.
According to a First Information Report (FIR) registered at Golra police station, a man identified as Mubeen, along with accomplices, abducted a police officer during the operation.
The kidnapped officer was allegedly confined inside a room, which was later set on fire, the report said.
Suspects also snatched an official submachine gun from police personnel and opened direct fire with intent to kill, the FIR added.
Police said they arrested 23 individuals accused of resisting law enforcement and injuring officers during the clash.
The case includes charges under Section 7 of Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Act, along with other offences.
Following the operation, a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) team has launched a search operation to apprehend remaining suspects, officials said.
