Following forty days of military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime—characterized by armed attacks on residential areas and civilian infrastructure—and after an exchange of numerous messages mediated by the brotherly nation of Pakistan, the Islamic Republic of Iran announced a ten-point proposal for a ceasefire. President Trump accepted these terms as the basis for two-week ceasefire negotiations.

Mr. Trump, who withdrew during his first term from the JCPOA—the result of twenty months of negotiations—attempted in his second term to impose excessive and irrational demands on Iran through bilateral talks. The imposition of the 12-day war in June 2025 by the Zionist regime and the U.S. was the direct result of the Iranian people's resistance against these demands.

Following that conflict, the Trump administration again requested negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program, with Oman playing the role of mediator. Unfortunately, despite the progress made in those talks, the Zionist regime and the U.S. attacked Iran on February 28, 2026. On the first day of this aggression, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and several high-ranking political and military officials were martyred at their residence. According to the testimony of the Omani Foreign Minister, that round of negotiations had reached favorable results and could have led to an agreement.

The child-killing, apartheid Zionist regime and the United States failed to achieve any of their objectives in this war. By attacking the Minab school, they martyred approximately 170 children, committing a clear war crime. Furthermore, they targeted 620 educational places, including universities and historical sites, as well as vital infrastructure such as hospitals, bridges, and power plants. They openly threatened to return Iran—a country with over 5,000 years of civilization—to the "Stone Age."

Based on Article 51 of the UN Charter, the Islamic Republic of Iran defended its territorial integrity firmly. In this powerful resistance and decisive response, Iran targeted objectives deep within the occupied territories, as well as U.S. military bases and interests in the region, shattering the concept of "absolute security" for Israel.

The Islamic Republic has never initiated any war. However, in the years following the Islamic Revolution, it has endured three military aggressions. The people of Iran have defended their territorial integrity with all their might against the aggressions of Saddam, the Zionist regime, and the U.S.

As a responsible member of the international community and an anchor of regional stability, Iran has always welcomed diplomacy and dialogue. With this perspective, the delegation of the Islamic Republic traveled to Pakistan to participate in ceasefire talks and end the illegal war imposed by Israel and the U.S. However, it must be acknowledged that due to repeated U.S. lawbreaking and breaches of promise, a formidable "wall of mistrust" exists. Naturally, Iran entered these negotiations with skepticism toward the U.S. Provided the U.S. and the Zionist regime do not violate the ceasefire, Iran remains committed to the diplomatic path and will live up to the agreement. Meanwhile, the Iranian Armed Forces maintain full defensive readiness to respond to any renewed military aggression.

It is now clear to most people worldwide that this war serves the interests of the Zionist regime at the expense of Muslim nations, particularly those in the southern Persian Gulf. Some neighboring Arab countries committed a strategic error based on a "strategic illusion" by participating in this war. Over 3,000 innocent Iranians were martyred in this conflict, a tragedy that will remain in the collective memory of our people.

Despite these bitter events, Iran and regional countries can still maintain good relations. Good neighborliness is a fundamental principle of the Islamic Republic’s foreign policy. Iran poses no threat to the region and has always extended a hand of friendship and brotherhood to its neighbors. As the Supreme Leader stated in his recent message to neighbors, "We are still waiting for an appropriate reaction from you to demonstrate our brotherhood and goodwill."

It has been proven to the international community that the Zionist regime is the primary threat to regional and international peace. Unfortunately, over seven decades of impunity for this regime regarding its occupation and crimes has escalated insecurity in West Asia. Since May 14, 1948 (the day of the Nakba), this regime has remained loyal to no treaty. Since 1948, the UN General Assembly and Security Council have adopted over 230 resolutions concerning aggression by the Zionist regime, the killing of Palestinians, and settlement construction, all of which have been disregarded by the Zionist regime.

The violation of the ceasefire in Lebanon and the brutal bombing of Beirut on April 8 demonstrate the warmongering nature of a regime that sustains its existence via creating regional crises.

Consequently, the first enemy of ceasefire talks is the Zionist regime. The Islamic Republic participated in the Islamabad talks with a constructive approach, out of respect for Pakistan's mediation. However, the Zionist regime and the U.S. sought to gain through excessive demands in a non-combat environment what they could not achieve in forty days of war; this is impossible.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to use all tools, including diplomacy, to secure its national interests and protect the common good of the country. We express our gratitude to the government and the noble people of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for hosting the negotiations and for their good offices in advancing this process.
