Pakistan Met Department has forecast heavy monsoon rain in Islamabad, Kashmir, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan from August 14, reported 24NewsHDTV Channel.
The Met Office predicted that from August 18 to 21, rainfall will is likely to lash Kashmir, various districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
The NDMA has warned of possible flooding in streams and nullahs, as well as the risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Lahore, Peshawar, and Nowshera. The department also cautioned about potential damage to weak infrastructure and the uprooting of trees. Tourists and travelers have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period.
Meanwhile, NDMA said amid monsoon rains an increase in water flow is expected in the Indus, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers, while a low to medium flood is expected in Taunsa, Guddu, Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad, and medium to high flow is expected in Nala Ek, Palkho, Dek, Hadiyara, Ben, and Basantar.
Due to the monsoon rains, Tarbela Dam is 96 percent full and Mangla Dam is 64 percent full.
Intermittent rain is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, and Khanewal from August 13 to 15. Moderate to heavy rains are expected in Sahiwal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Taunsa, Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Rajanpur, and Rahim Yar Khan from August 13 to 15.
While urban flooding is expected in major cities of Punjab, and Mountain Rivers and canals are likely to overflow in DG Khan and Rajanpur, the flow in Pir Panjal canals is expected to increase.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected in the districts of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Kohistan, Malakand, Buner, Mansehra, Battagram, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Kohat, and Hangu of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The flow of the Kabul River, Swat, and their adjacent drains, Panjkoda, Bara, and Kalpani, is expected to increase. Flash floods are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to possible heavy rains, while landslides are expected in mountainous areas.
Flooding is likely in the districts of Hunza, Shigar, and Ganchha of Gilgit-Baltistan due to possible rains. Due to rains and melting of glaciers, the flow of rivers Hunza, Khunjerab, Shamshal, Baraldo, Hoshe, and Saltoro is expected to increase.
