Secretary Universities and Boards on Wednesday issued a notification for the appointment of Dr. Nighat Shah, daughter of ex-Sindh CM Syed Qaim Ali Shah, as a professor for a period of three years just a day before her retirement, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) had said that the appointment of retired faculty members on contract was not mandatory.

The PMDC had tied the appointment to the concerned department’s requirements and rules and regulations.

The council had also laid down a condition that Dr. Nighat’s appointment would not affect the promotions of the junior staff.

However, the appointment risks affecting the seniority of associate professors of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU).

There are fears that Dr. Nighat’s appointment might affect the seniority of Dr. Shazia Naseeb, Dr. Nasreen Fatima, Dr. Saba Khan, Dr. Irum Majid and Dr. Maimoona Rehman.
