While Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par had a strong start, its fourth-week collections have taken a dip due to intense competition, local media reports.
Directed by RS Prasanna, the film opened to positive reviews in June and quickly earned the title of one of the year’s more meaningful successes.
According to early estimates by Sacnilk, the movie earned 9million Indian rupees on its 22nd day, taking its total domestic collection to 155.21 crore Indian rupees.
Sitaare Zameen Par tells the inspiring story of a suspended basketball coach (played by Aamir Khan), who is assigned community service and ends up training a group of players with intellectual disabilities for a tournament. The film marks a significant step forward in inclusive storytelling, with ten neurodivergent actors making their acting debut in key roles.
The film also stars Genelia Deshmukh, who has been praised for her performance, alongside talented newcomers such as Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishnan Varma, Vedant Sharmaa, and others who portray the team of underdog athletes.
The film currently holds a 3.5-star rating from The Times of India. Critics praised its emotional depth and powerful messaging around acceptance, inclusion, and resilience. A memorable line from the film – Humaari kismat haathon pe nahi, chromosome pe likh ke aati hai – resonated strongly with the audience.
However, the film isn’t without flaws. Critics pointed out that certain subplots, particularly involving Aamir’s on-screen mother and the family butler, felt disconnected from the central narrative. The pacing lagged in places, and some scenes were described as overly sentimental or convenient.
Despite a dip in earnings, Sitaare Zameen Par continues to strike a chord due to its heartfelt message, powerful performances, and its bold choice to highlight neurodivergent characters.
