During an interview on Davina McCall’s Begin Again podcast, she dismissed the long-standing speculation that she was the subject of Beyoncé’s song “Sorry” from the 2016 album Lemonade.
Calling Beyoncé her “fairy godmother,” Rita revealed, “She’s been my protector behind the scenes, always showing me love and support.” The singer also recalled how Beyoncé attended her first show in New York, adding that the rumours had genuinely upset her at the time.
Rita, who is married to director Taika Waititi, said she still sees Beyoncé regularly and cherishes their bond. “It wasn’t real. None of that was real,” she said of the speculation, before joking, “I wish I had good hair!”
